Back that Azz UP!

First you hear the that beat drop. Then, “Cash Money taking ova for the ’99 – ‘00”! You can expect everyone young and old to hit the dance floor, or at the least to do a bounce in their seats. Back That Azz UP made it OK for people from every region to learn the “New Orleans Bounce” and shake their back sides with no shame or remorse.

My question is when this song was being made, what was really going through Juvenile and Mannie Fresh’s mind when they produced this song? This song is truly ignorant and misogynistic. Yet, from the time I first saw the video in my college dorm room;  on that 13 inch television where my roommate and I watched TRL faithfully until today in my 40th year of life, I will still give you that work on the dance floor. After twenty years I have definitely improved my skills of “throwing that a$$ in a circle”. Imma fine mf that will let daddy walk me like a dog…educated, bougie and all!

I wonder did they ever imagine that for over twenty years and counting that Back That Azz Up would be played at so many celebrations like all HBCU college parties, College Bands, Family reunions, weddings, birthday parties…hell, bar mitzvahs. This has become a ghetto classic and has made memories for black families for years to come.

My close second to this opus is the THONG SONG. Did Sisqo genuinely believe when he crooned the lyrics “let me see that booty go: duh, duh, duh, duh”, that he would start a fashion frenzy. Every chick was anxious to wear their thongs outside of their jeans to let you know where they were coming from. I still bump that song while riding.

Do you have any ghetto classics? Let me know in the comments

  2. Shake it Fast by Mystikal definitely gets the same type of response by both young and old. Definitely a ghetto classic, also from the N.O.
